Just a week ago, Don and his fiancee,Gabriella Fernandez, tied the knot. They were all aglow, but when I asked if the truck show was their honeymoon, they said "not quite." Gaby told me they hope to go to Spain sometime this year.
Nine years ago, Don was shot during a drop-off and was forced to give up his trucking job. But things turned around for the retired Army chaplain at MATS 2009 when he was awarded the 2008 "Back On The Road" prize from Arrow Truck Sales. The grand prize included a truck, a job, insurance (from OOIDA) and all the trimmings. It was a true second chance, and Don is grateful.
"I tell the story everywhere," he said. "Everywhere I go, people see the truck."
Best of luck to you, Don and Gaby.
